Common FAQS

  1. My license code will not activate MimioStudio™ Notebook. Read More >>
As of version 11 of MimioStudio software, the older free license codes that were included with the installer discs no longer work. Instead, activation is initiated by hardware. Just connect a Mimio device to your computer, and the software will fully activate. Note that the MimioHub receiver alone will not activate the software. You need to pair a Mimio device such as a MimioTeach bar to the MimioHub receiver and power it on. If you are still unable to activate the software after connecting a device, contact customercare@boxlight.com for additional troubleshooting.
  2. (Windows only) – I have connected a Mimio device to my computer, but the software still will not activate. Read More >>

If you are having trouble activating MimioStudio software with Mimio hardware on your computer, it may be an issue with your computer’s permissions. To verify that the device is successfully connected, open MimioStudio Notebook, select “Continue using the limited version,” and then go to Tools > Settings > Classroom Devices. If your device shows up, then this confirms that it is an issue with your computer’s permissions.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

    • Go to Control Panel > Folder Options.
    • Click on the “View” tab and make sure “Show hidden files, folders and drives” is selected. Then click “OK.”
    • Make sure MimioStudio Notebook is closed and all associated Mimio processes (mimiosys.exe, notebook.exe, etc.) are ended.
    • From there go to C:\ProgramData\Mimio, right-click on the folder called “License,” and click “Properties.”
    • Click on the Security tab and then click “Edit.”
    • On the next screen, click “Add.”
    • In the area that says, “Enter the object names to select,” type “Everyone” and click “OK.”
    • Select “Everyone” from the list and make sure the “Allow” box is checked under “Full Control” and “Modify.”
    • Click “Apply” and then “OK,” and then click “OK” one more time on the following screen.
    • Go back to Control Panel > Folder Options. Click on “View” and re-select “Don’t show hidden files, folders, or drives.” Click “OK.”
    • Connect your Mimio device to your computer and open MimioStudio Notebook.
    • The software should now activate with Mimio hardware without issue.

If the software still will not activate, do the following:

    • Go to Control Panel > Folder Options.
    • Click on the “View” tab and make sure “Show hidden files, folders and drives” is selected. Then click “OK.”
    • Make sure MimioStudio Notebook is closed and all associated Mimio processes (mimiosys.exe, notebook.exe, etc.) are ended.
    • From there go to C:\ProgramData\Mimio and delete the folder called “License.”
    • Go back to Control Panel > Folder Options, click on “View” and re-select “Don’t show hidden files, folders, or drives.” Click “OK.”
    • Connect your Mimio device to your computer and open MimioStudio Notebook.
    • The software should now activate with Mimio hardware without issue.

If you continue to have hardware activation issues after following these steps, contact customercare@boxlight.com for additional troubleshooting.

  3. The MimioStudio installer is stuck halfway. Read More >>
This problem occurs on Windows machines only. To fix it, go to the Start Menu, select “shutdown,” and then cancel the shutdown before it is initiated. The install will then finish and the software will open automatically. Similar installation issues can be caused by anti-virus software. Make sure you have programs of this type disabled before attempting to install MimioStudio software. If you continue to have installation issues after following these steps, contact customercare@boxlight.com for additional troubleshooting.
  4. (Windows only) – MimioStudio Notebook is installed, but there is nothing in the Gallery. Read More >>

If the MimioStudio Gallery failed to install, the problem may be a permissions issue involving your user profile. You can finish installing the Gallery manually by following these steps:

    • Run a Command Prompt as Administrator.
    • Type the following command and hit enter: cd c:\program files (x86)\mimio\mimiostudio
    • Type the following command and hit enter again: mimiosys.exe -install

Note: The path of the first command may be slightly different – i.e., 32-bit systems are “program files” vs. “program files (x86).” Please verify the path before entering the command line. Also, make sure that MimioStudio Notebook is closed and all associated Mimio processes (mimiosys.exe, notebook.exe, etc.) are ended before running the command prompt.

The Gallery will now finish installing. If you are still missing the Gallery after following these steps, contact customercare@boxlight.com for additional troubleshooting.

  5. When a PDF is imported into MimioStudio Notebook, the characters look strange. Read More >>

This is caused by a setting within Adobe Reader. To resolve this problem, do the following.

    • Launch Adobe Reader and select Edit > Preferences.
    • Select General for Adobe Reader X, or Security (Enhanced) for Adobe Reader XI, from the left navigation pane.
    • Under application startup, uncheck the “Enable Protected Mode at Startup” checkbox.

Once you have done this, close Adobe, close all of the processes associated with MimioStudio software, and then reopen and try to import. The file should import correctly. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact customercare@boxlight.com for additional troubleshooting.
